Aegan Movie Review:

Raju Sundaram can better opt assisting his brother Prabhu Deva for couple of flicks before wielding megaphones. Yup! His directorial debut ‘Aegan’ showcases his innovative style of come within reach of many aspects, but amateurish prospects prolongs all throughout especially in screenplay. ‘Main Hoon Naa’ was an absolute blockbuster that had hit the screens nearly before 5 years. Even today, you’ll feel sticking to the film whenever screened in satellite television channels. Finest rigid reasons could be the brilliant directorial by Farah Khan and her knacks of blending commercial elements together.

Prior to couple of days before ‘Aegan’ release, Raju Sundaram came up with a story it’s not a remake of Hindi film, but a Hollywood flick ‘Back to School’. A serious-tough cop Shiva (Ajith Kumar) believes in no one other than his gun (the intro by Nasser reveals of it). Bumping off the top-most notorious gang of International Criminals and one among them is Iqbal. He is one among the gang lead by John Chinnappa (Suman). As one of his assistant Ram Prasad (Devendran) gets way and turns into approver, John Chinnappa kills Ram’s wife. Immediately, Ram Prasad hides himself in Ooty where his daughter Pooja (Piyaa) alienated from him undergoes studies in St. John’s College.

Shiva is assigned by Commissioner as well his father Karthik (Nasser) to disguise himself as student and enter the college. This is all for getting on friendly with Pooja and know whereabouts of her father.

As Shiva steps into College, he encounters various characters: Crazy principal Albert (Jayaram), College Peon (Satyan), gang of college students inclusive of Pooja and her boyfriend Kishore (Navdeep), who happens to be step-brother…

Malikka (Nayanthara), college professor attracts Shiva and it’s love at first sight…. Caught up in a dilemma of romance and emotions he also strides accomplishing his mission.

Wow! What an extraordinary performance by Ajith Kumar? “Student! Oh Me! I have a fat belly, no six packs, and thick beards and how would they believe I am a student” This seems to be the real confessions of an actor who agrees about his identity. Ajith astounds perfect on his dance and credits goes to choreographer brothers Raju Sundaram-Prabhu Deva. They have churned the best out of Ajith’s abilities and his potentials.

On the quotients of comedy, the actor scores 8/10… What about 2 points missing? It’s due to blatant flaw of Raju Sundaram who continually keeps spelling comedies even in grievous situations. The very best sequence is the film is where Ajith sings ‘Unnai Partha Pinbu Naan’ (song from his yesteryear flick ‘Kadhal Mannan) when he first meets Nayanthara. A great delightedness indeed for all the audiences, but the credit goes to Farah Khan and not Raju Sundaram (Shah Rukh Khan sings ‘Ek Ladki Ko Deka Tho’ from 1942 LOVE STORY on his first meet with Sushmitha Sen).

Raju Sundaram commits the greatest flaw with his characterization of Suman as John Chinnappa, a comedy oriented villain. It’s ok, if there are humorous parts for few scenes. But it’s so disastrous to see the entire gang of baddies is performing comedies all throughout their sequences.

Nasser, Navdeep and Piyaa take on with good efforts. Piyaa looks cool, but Navdeep is odd on the screen and preferably Raju Sundaram could have opted a good looking young lad. Jayaram and Haneefa spellbound adding more to the humor part and they offer complete strength to richness of film.

None of the musical scores other than ‘Hey Saala’ are really impressive in terms of music. Picturization of ‘Hey Baby’ is pleasant with Ajith imitating Sivaji Ganeshan. But, except this one, all the songs look odd for the placement is proper. Don’t know the reason why even the happiest song have actors looking angrily singing in it on the screens (watch Ajith and Navdeep in Hey Saala).

Screenplay is excellent in the first half and in contrast goes the latter part. Dialogues offer liveliness to the script, but it’s Crazy Mohan overbeating Ramakrishna with his humorous dialogues.

Cinematography by Arjun Jana is moderate and he hasn’t proved of his privilege of being protégé to Nirav Shah (Cameraman of Pattiyal, Dhoom, Dhoom-2, Pokkiri, Billa). Raju Sundaram has merely adapted the location of Hill station from Main Hoon Naa. Well, Farah Khan had well-depicted the scenic beauties of Darjeeling, but nothing such uniqueness is visible here. Except Hong Kong sequences, not many scenes have been shot extensively beauteous.

On the whole, ‘Aegan’ showcases the uttermost potentials of Ajith Kumar. He has rendered his best efforts in comedy, dance, and action and emotes well to romance and sentiments. Raju Sundaram should have well worked precisely for a gripping screenplay in second half avoiding the blatant flaws mentioned above.

Aegan is merely for two categories of audiences: Fans of Ajith Kumar and for those who haven’t watched ‘Main Hoon Naa’.Its little disappointment.

Fate of Aegan in UK:

‘Aegan’ has brought in lesser amount at the UK box office than expected.

Among the Deepavali releases, Ajith’s ‘Aegan’ was one film that people did not expect would do wrong. It has big names like Raju Sundaram as director, Yuvan Shankar Raja as music composer and Suman as villain.

Nayantara’s glamour was also much spoken about. Despite having so many things going for it, the film did not do as well as expected because the director did not pay enough attention to the screenplay.

In the first week of its release, ‘Aegan’ made 91 lakhs but the returns are dropping as days go by. The film also does not have the expected welcome overseas. In the UK , it has made only 33.24 lakhs till now. It was in 25th place in the first week and has slipped to 34th place this week.

In comparison to Hindi films also running in the UK , ‘Aegan’ is in 5th place. On the whole, ‘Aegan’ is lagging far behind ‘Billa.’

Ajith Kumar had raised all our expectations with his previous flick ‘Billa’ for his sole stylish looks and performance. However, it was a great delightedness for ‘A’ Centres and ‘Aegan’ is a commercial entertainer for ‘B’ and ‘C’ Centres. Certain parts may not be liked by elite group of audiences. Ajith Kumar offers his best talents to the uttermost level in dance and action sequences. Raju Sudaram hasn’t just remade the film but adapted it according to the tastes of Tamil audiences.

The film opens with Siva (Ajith Kumar), a CB CID official bumping off international criminals headed by John Chinnappa (Suman). None are able to trap John Chinnappa and problems begin when one of his group members Ram Prasad gets away from him for turning into an approver. Unfortunately, Ram Prasad’s wife is bumped off and his daughter Pooja (Piyaa) gets away from him.

Karthikeyan (Nasser), step-father of Siva as well as City Commissioner appoints him to go ahead as a student in Saint John’s College. It is where Pooja studies and this mission is to trap Ram Prasad who is missing (John Chinnappa can be trapped only on Ram Prasad’s statement).

Getting into college doesn’t make things easier for him as none of the college students mingle with him. College Principal Albert (Jayaram) admits him into his college offering him all the facilities and he is a man with five-sense (6th sense is missing – that’s what narrator says in the intro part). Pooja has no likeliness for her father and she finds only delightedness in Kishore (Navdeep).

As Pooja is kidnapped once by the John Chinnappa, Siva rescues them and the entire college reciprocates offering good friendship. Here, begins the jolly ride of fun and frolic with college mania and Siva falling in love with his professor Malikka (Nayanthara) is cool delightedness.

Now Siva gets immersed in college life, with his entire rough and tough characterization being vanished. On the same time, he has to accomplish his mission of trapping the baddies… Well, as the title suggests, he accomplishes the task, but there is something surprising he gets about a new relationship.

Taking on terms of performance, it’s just Ajith Kumar who rules the show. Be it dance or action or comedy sequences, he does it outstandingly. Nayanthara is not appealing in her looks, though she seems to be working out for that factor with glamorous costumes. Nevertheless, she gets you annoyed with her performance. Navdeep and Piyaa stride with moderate efforts. If the entire film looks humorous it’s because of Jayaram and Haneefa. Suman presented in different dimension of comedy oriented is something new and Sriman accompanying him is a good show. Nasser and Suhasini do justice to their roles.

Raju Sundaram has precisely got the best out of Ajith Kumar. Thala fascinates with his enthusiastic approach in all parts. The same script of Main Hoon Naa has been taken, but the director has tried something different in screenplay making some changes. Raju has failed in brining the excellent looks of college and almost all the scenes look artificial.

Musical score by Yuvan Shankar Raja is not so impressive and only ‘Hey Saala’ offers grandness and don’t miss Ajith’s dance over there. The first half is good and perfect while the latter half is bit dampening. Whatever may be? If you love Thala, then you will not notice any of the flaws.

On the whole, ‘Aegan’ is a commercial entertainer for all the masses. Walk into theatres without any expectations of Billa and you will enjoy it.

Aegan gets U Certificate:

Aegan, the remake of hindi movie Main Hoon Na, marks the debut of ace dance choreographer-actor Raju Sundaram as director. His brother Prabhu Deva has already been making waves in Tollywood and Kollywood with his directorial skills. Both brothers have an incredible sense of humour and a unique way of looking at things, which definitely gives them an edge.

As the audio of “Aegan” audio already hits the stores it’s confirm that the movie would hit theatres this Diwali but there were some confusion that the movie will release bit earlier than Diwali for weekend collection. According to a source that the movie is now confirmed a release date on October 24 2008 Friday.

Aegan: Release postponed?

Ajith starrer Aegan’s release has been postponed to October 24th (three days before Diwali) to take advantage of the long weekend. Earlier, the producers (Ayngaran International) had decided to release it on September 19th.

The audio launch of Aegan is tentatively on September 27th. Music is by Yuvanshankar Raja, the flavour of youth.

Aegan is a remake of the Hindi blockbuster Main Hoon Na and marks the transformation of Raju Sundaram from dance choreographer to film director. The buzz is that Raju Sundaram’s brother, ace dance-choreographer-actor Prabhu Deva, has choreographed a song in this film, which will serve as its highlight. The grapevine says that Prabhu Deva will do a cameo in this song, but this information has not yet been confirmed by the Aegan’s sources.

Producers K. Karunamoorthy and C. Arunpandian have ensured that this film overtakes Main Hoon Na in terms of grandeur, stunts, and screenplay. Cameraman Arjun Jaanaa has excelled with the camerawork and has ensured that you get a feel of watching a Hollywood film.

According to reports, Ayngaran International the producers of the much-awaited Aegan have plans to launch the audio on the 5th of September, coinciding with Teachers Day.

Directed by Raju Sundaram, the film has Nayanthara opposite Ajith while Navdeep plays his brother. Yuvan Shankar Raja is scoring the music.

‘Aegan’ music album coming soon:

It is that time of season that would make Ajith fans jump for joy. The much-awaited ‘Aegan’ music album will hit the markets very soon.

Sources have it that Ayngaran International; the producers of the film have decided to launch the audio on the 5th of September, coinciding with Teachers Day. Yuvan Shankar Raja, who has scored the music, has reportedly worked hard in order to get the appropriate appeal.

Following the success of ‘Billa’, Ajith is hopeful that ‘Aegan’ would also make it big. Directed by Raju Sundaram, the film has Nayanthara opposite Ajith while Navdeep plays his brother. The movie is said to be a remake of the Hindi hit ‘Main Hoon Na’.

‘The songs have come good and would top the audio charts, sources close to Yuvan Shankar Raja say. There is a right mix of hip-hop and groovy numbers in ‘Aegan’ and Ajith fans will cherish the album’, they add.

Piya and Nayanthara for Ajith’s movie Aegan:

Kollywood Movie Aegan is already in the news for Ajith’s makeover and beard getup. Yet another hot news is about the heroines of the same movie. Actress Piya is one who is acting together with Ajith for the first time in cinema. The entire unit of Aegan suggests that Piya would rock Kollywood with her glam and her acting. Ajith in a Remake Film with Ameer!

The Director Ameer is not known for remake film but he has given clues that he would likely to remake the blockbuster yesteryear movie of 1962 “Bale Pandia” starring Shivaji, Devika, M.R.Radha. Ameer wants Ajith to lead the role and Ayngaran International Films will produce this film. Ameer is known for giving different stories as Thala fans must be happy if Ajith appears in different roles. Still official announcement was not made and it would be made soon.

Suman as Villain in Ajith’s Aegan Film:

Suman, who made his re-entry to kollwood with ‘Sivaji’ as a villain is getting more offers to act as villain. The handsome star, who fought with the Superstar in ‘Sivaji’, is been roped in to battle with Ajith in his forthcoming movie ‘Aegan’.

Suman's excellent performance in Sivaji won him lot of accolades and he started receiving calls from many filmmakers to act as villain in their films. The actor, however, was determined to act only with the big heroes and hence refused many offers that came his way.

Finally he has got the offer he was waiting for. Raju Sundaram, director of ‘Aegan’, approached him to don the role of the villain in the film. Suman, who gleefully accepted the offer, is now preparing to clash with Ultimate Star.

Aegan audio release on september 5th?

Ultimate Star Ajith who is currently busy with the wrapping up of his upcoming venture ‘Aegan’ will be seen in a never before role. Now, the makers have announced that the audio release of the movie will happen on the 5th of September. With some really haunting tunes by Yuvan Shankar Raja, the film has hot beauty Nayantara as the heroine while Navdeep will play the second lead. The film also marks the debut of Raju Sundaram as the director of the movie.

Ajith's Aegan is in full swing and the latest is that a huge set has been erected in AVM studios in chennai for shooting a song sequence between Stylish Ajith and Hot Nayantara. The song has a intresting cat sound effect in between the lyrics.

The song will also feature top models from mumbai. The song to be choreographed by dance master Dinesh is said to be a sizzling number between ultimate star Ajith and senseous Nayantara.

Actor Navdeep plays an important role of Ajith’s brother in the film while Suhasini Manirathnam, Suman, Nasser, Sriman and many other will add up to the supporting star casts.

If Shah Rukh Khan played undercover military agent in Main Hoon Naa, this remake version will have Ajith in undercover secret agent getting into college campus as a student to find out a hidden mystery.

Shooting for Aegan is vigrously moving on fast pace. Aegan Ajith and Villu Vijay revive the TRPs?

While it is raining stars in national television, who are said to be skyrocketing TRP (Television Rating Points) rates, down South the television scene seems rather mega-sitcom-ish and reality show ridden. And an overdose of both, at that. Big B revolutionalized the television ratings in the otherwise Saas-Bahu saga with his Kaun Banega Crorepathi. His charm and panache did the trick and what the show did to Star TV's stature needs no explanation. Viewership rates went through the roof and Star snatched the television empire from Zee network sooner.

The era of Bollywood frequenting the tube started thereafter in a grand scale and we see more of Shahrukh and Salman on TV than on the big screen these days. Let alone reality shows, Shahrukh has modeled for products ranging from salt to satellite dishes and everything in between, giving professional models a run for their jobs. Although Shahrukh’s class teacher act for Paanchvi Pass on Star TV couldn’t render the same magic that his Crorepathi did, Salman Khan’s Dus Ka Dhum is making waves owing to his nonchalant ways of making the guests relax while hurling questions at them. Latest in line is Akshay Kumar, who, true to his daredevil image, is hosting the Indianized version of the Fear Factor show on the recently launched Colors TV.

While this is the scene up North, Southern television is screaming for want of attention from creative heads. Not to mention, Kollywood star power has never paid much attention to television. Point in fact; there are actors who still consider going on air in television as harmful to their mainstream big screen image. This could be the same reason why celebrity endorsements have never been in fashion in Tamil TV. Exceptions being Surya, Ajith, and Vikram.

The closest thing ever frontline Kollywood stars did to get on TV was giving interviews on national holidays and festival time. And of course, on celebrity talk shows, that are a relatively new concept to Tamil television.

Of the few, Kushboo is the successful host of the television show Jackpot that still airs on TV. Few years ago, Sarath hosted the Tamil version of the Crorepathi show that was received with lukewarm response. That apart, many a Kollywood stars are part of the judges panel in those dance-based reality shows – most significantly, Namitha and Mumtaz.

The television channels only seem interested in competing for broadcast rights of every single movie being produced. Although the crores spent on buying such rights are worth every paisa, novel concepts for newer television formats, including game shows and talk shows that make use of the Kollywood star power, will have a telling impact on the TRP ratings.

For instance, Vikram hosting a reality-stunt show or Surya hosting a fitness based reality show will be sure shot hits. Or how about Ajith hosting a regionalized version of Das Ka Dhum and Vijay Paanchvi Paas? If only the producers care enough to look around for a brainwave, getting up close with our Kollywood stars in our own living room could become a reality soon.

Aegan Ajith signed for Ascar?

Murugadoss’s assistant Raj Kumar seems to have hit the jackpot. The young director had approached Aascar Ravichandran with a story. Impressed by it, Aascar is said to have offered Raj Kumar with three choices – Kamal Haasan, Vijay or Ajith – for the lead role though the director preferred a relatively new hero.

Aegan Ajith insisted that a film with such a good storyline must have an established hero. The director without any hesitation is said to have picked Ajith. And things started moving swiftly for the director. A quick discussion with Ajith revealed that he would be available after Aegan, which is nearing completion and another project for Sivaji Productions that follows. Aascar Ravichandran has signed up Raj Kumar, who is now working on developing the story. Ajith is yet to sign the dotted lines, sources say.

Aegan Film - Not Just Action!

Contrary to expectations that Ajith’s Aegan will be an all out action ride, the movies crew has given us a feeler about its other side. Yes, Aegan will have action aplenty, enough to satiate all Ultimate Star fans but it will not be just action, there will be a strong sentimental current running through the movie. The outline of the story that we have heard of suggests that lots of family emotions will be at play in this movie.

In Aegan, Ajith’s father marries a second time. Ajith’s foster brother, played by Navdeep, is born out of the marriage. The situations in the life of such a family, the sentiments involved between a step mother and son, are said to form a pivotal portion of the story. Suhasini plays the role of the second wife. The Aegan crew says that Ajith will be seen in many emotionally moving scenes and that will definitely grab our attention.

Also, the crew has revealed that a very stylish duet featuring Ajith and Nayanthara, one that will catch everyone’s eye is set to be shot very soon. In fact, news is that the crew is only waiting for Ajith to return from Cannes where he was present on the 18th along with Vishnuvardhan for the screening of Billa. So, Aegan is not just another action ride, we will get to see Ajith in yet another potentially moving performance after Kreedom. Let’s wait and watch.
